Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze performance, accuracy, and utility of Earth Observation data, components, and approaches in both time and space.
  • Implement software solutions (e.g., physical system models and simulations, exploitation algorithms) for execution on desktops and large scale compute environments
  • Prototype algorithms, models, and simulations in Python
  • Investigate existing and pursue unique data exploitation methods and automation techniques (e.g., machine learning, spatiotemporal statistics)
  • Assess accuracy, performance, and utility of proposed algorithms (e.g., error assessments, satellite validation)
  • Provide guidance and technical advice on customer projects 
  • Work with other scientists as a team member to solve multi-disciplinary problems
  • Work may involve system level analysis, component performance analysis, requirements development and review 
  • Potential for broad range of problems and need to have willingness to learn and tackle new problems
  • Interface frequently with VanderSat customer-site representatives to define, execute, and assess the status of projects


Essential Requirements

  • MSc. Physics/Earth Sciences
  • Ability to implement solutions to data processing problems in languages such as Python and C/C++ and to target desktops and large scale compute environments
  • Strong scientific skills and at the same time capable of turning these skills into operational products
  • Hands on experience with Earth Observation Data
  • Highly developed planning and organisation skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced entrepreneurial environment

Desirable Requirements

  • Professional and technical communication skills such as writing technical documentation, writing status reports, writing algorithm description documents, authoring presentation charts, and presenting to an audience
