VanderSat contributed to NOAA's International Climate Report

Strong El Niño boosted the long-term warming trends on our globe

Three colleagues of VanderSat contributed to the State of the Climate in 2015 report, which was recently released by the American Meteorological Society (AMS). This report, led by NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, is based on contributions from more than 450 scientists from 62 countries worldwide and provides an annual update of our climate system. The report found that most indicators of climate change continued to reflect trends consistent with a warming planet.

Vandersat’s contribution within this team of scientists focused on global soil moisture and revealed several extreme dry events in 2015 including droughts in eastern Brazil, northern Australia and southern Africa. More info on this work can be found in the second chapter of the climate report.
